Privacy Policy — UK School Finder
The short version
UK School Finder helps you find and compare UK schools. You don't need an account, and we don't ask for your name, email, or any sign-in. The schools you save and the notes you write stay on your device — we never receive them. The only information that leaves your device is what's needed to answer a search (a postcode or your location) and the ordinary technical requests any app makes to load maps and data. We don't use analytics, advertising, or tracking of any kind, and we don't sell your data.
Who we are
UK School Finder is provided by Better Humans Group Ltd ("we", "us"), a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17449229), registered office 90 West End Road, Ruislip, HA4 6DS. For UK data protection law (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018), we are the data controller for the limited processing described here.
What we process, and why
Information you type (e.g. a postcode or school name). When you search, a postcode is sent to a postcode-lookup service to turn it into a map location, and your search is used to return matching schools from our database. We don't attach this to any identity, and we don't store a history of your searches against you.
Your location — only if you allow it. If you tap "use my location", the app reads your device location and uses it to find nearby schools. It's used to answer that search and is not stored on our servers or linked to you. You can refuse or revoke this permission at any time in your device settings; the app still works (you just search by postcode instead).
Things stored only on your device. Your saved/shortlisted schools, your visit notes, and your saved "home" location are stored locally on your device only. We do not upload, receive, or have any access to them. Deleting the app removes them.
Ordinary technical information. Like any internet app, when UK School Finder loads school data, maps, and logos, your device's IP address and the specific request are necessarily visible to the servers that answer them (see "Third-party services" below). We don't use this to build a profile of you.
What we do NOT do
- We do not require or offer an account, and do not collect your name, email, phone number, or any login credentials.
- We do not use analytics, crash-reporting, advertising, or tracking SDKs.
- We do not serve ads or share data with advertisers.
- We do not sell your personal data.
- We do not knowingly collect data from children (see below).
Third-party services
To provide the app, requests are made to the following services. Each receives only what's needed to answer the request (such as your IP address, and — where relevant — a map location or postcode). None of them receive an account or identity from us, because we don't have one.
- Supabase — hosts our schools database and answers search/lookup requests.
- CARTO — supplies the interactive map's base tiles.
- Mapbox — supplies static map thumbnails.
- postcodes.io — converts a UK postcode into a map location.
- Google (favicon service) — fetches school website logos.
- unpkg (CDN) — serves the map-rendering library to the in-app map.
- Apple Maps / your map app — only opened if you tap "Directions".
Children
UK School Finder is a tool for parents, carers, and other adults researching schools. It is not directed at children and is not intended for use by children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The app is not part of Google Play's "Designed for Families" programme, and its target audience is adults.
How long we keep information
We do not retain your personal data on our servers — searches and location are used to answer your request and not stored against you. Data held on your device (saved schools, notes, home location) remains until you delete it or uninstall the app.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have rights including access, correction, erasure, and to object to processing. Because we operate without accounts and don't store personal data about you on our servers, in practice most of your data is already only on your own device and under your control. If you have any request or question, contact us at hello@betterhumansgroup.com and we'll respond within one month. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
Data location
Our school database is hosted by Supabase. Some third-party services listed above may process requests outside the UK; where they do, appropriate safeguards apply.
Security
We use reputable hosting providers and standard protections (such as encrypted connections). No method of transmission is perfectly secure, but because we hold no accounts and minimal data, the exposure is inherently small.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy; we'll change the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, note it in the app or store listing.
